What is Easy Symbol?
Easy Symbol — also called the Military Symbol Generator — is the application behind symbol.army . It is a free Progressive Web App from gs-soft AG for drawing, editing, exporting, and sharing individual tactical and military symbols and graphics, rendered according to the MIL-STD-2525 and APP-6 standards.
Do I need to install anything?
No. symbol.army runs in any modern web browser — just open the link. Because it is a Progressive Web App you can optionally install it to your desktop or mobile home screen for quicker access, but installation is never required.
Is it free to use?
Yes. symbol.army is free to use.
Which browsers and operating systems are supported?
symbol.army runs on current versions of Chrome, Edge, Brave, Firefox, and Safari, and on recent Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS/iPadOS releases. For the exact minimum versions, see the Compatibility page.
What can I export, and in which formats?
You can export a symbol as a vector or pixel image — .svg, .png, or .pdf. You can also export the MilX layer format (.milx, or compressed .milxlyz) for use in other tools.
Can I use my symbols in map.army?
Yes.
symbol.army
exports the MilX format (.milx / .milxlyz), which map.army imports — so a symbol you draw here can be placed on a tactical map in the sibling map.army editor.
How do I make sure I am running the latest version?
symbol.army is updated frequently. When a new release is available you are notified on start; press Reload to update. You can also force a check at any time with Ctrl+F5. See the Update page for details.
How do I draw my first symbol?
Open the app and follow the first-steps tutorial, which walks you through creating your first military symbol step by step. To get familiar with the interface first, see Open the App.
Does it work offline?
No. symbol.army requires an internet connection because it relies on backend services to render and manage symbols. Installing it as a Progressive Web App adds a convenient launch icon but does not enable offline use.
