Install as App
symbol.army is a Progressive Web App (PWA). It runs in the browser without installation, but you can also install it on your computer, tablet or phone and start it like any other app.
Install the App
Installing is optional — the app works the same in a browser tab. An installed app opens in its own window, without the browser’s address bar, and gets an icon in the start menu, dock or home screen. It is listed as Easy Symbol.
| Device | How to install |
|---|---|
| Windows, macOS, Linux (Chrome, Edge, Brave) | Open symbol.army, then click the install icon at the right end of the address bar, or open the browser menu and choose Install app. |
| Android (Chrome) | Open the browser menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. |
| iPhone, iPad (Safari) | Tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. |
The names of these menu entries differ slightly between browser versions. Firefox on the desktop does not install web apps; use the app in a browser tab instead.
A right-click (or long press) on the installed app icon offers two shortcuts: Documentation opens this documentation, Legal opens the copyright and licence information.
Internet Connection Required
symbol.army needs an internet connection. Every symbol is rendered by the MSS Web Service of gs-soft AG, so neither the search, the editor nor the download work offline — also not in the installed app.
If the connection is lost, the app shows an offline page. It checks the connection every 30 seconds and reloads automatically as soon as the connection is back.
What Is Stored in Your Browser
symbol.army has no user accounts and stores nothing about you on a server. Two things are kept locally in your browser:
| Data | Kept |
|---|---|
| Your settings: language, theme, Work Mode, symbol format, export format, hidden messages | Permanently, until you change them or clear the browser data |
| The symbol you are currently working on | For the current browser tab only — a reload keeps it, a new tab starts with the default symbol |
Updates
The installed app updates itself in the same way as the browser version. See Update.
